Job Description

General Motors is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to fill the role of Manufacturing Group Leader. This position is responsible for leading a team of skilled employees to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of skilled employees to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment and processes
  • Administer National and Local Agreement between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union
  • Use independent judgment within the limits of Global Manufacturing Systems to focus on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE)
  • Manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Drive accountability through people and processes, including difficult conversations in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills and work effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrate a high analytical ability to solve complex problems
  • Conduct appropriate checks and tests, and communicate evaluation of results
  • Recommends solutions to problems
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions
  • Meets schedule and quality requirements
  • Complies with the terms of local and national labor agreements
  • Implements divisional and corporate policies and safety and good housekeeping practices
  • Maintain frequent contact and collaboration with others outside of the work group
  • Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material and equipment
  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
  • Has knowledge and ability to implement GMS principles
Requirements:
  • One year of direct team supervisory experience or at least 5 months as an internal GM per diem group leader
  • Ability to read and understand electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic blueprints
  • Ability to coordinate, manage, address performance concerns, and lead people in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to solve complex problems and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to manage conflict and make decisions in ambiguous fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer proficiency (i.e. Microsoft Word, typing, email etc.)
  • Must be willing to work weekends and rotating shifts
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Willingness to ask questions, take initiative and be resourceful
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, self-directed
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering and Manufacturing Teams
