Role Responsibilities

  • The Community Manager for Science Education oversees initiatives aimed at fostering relationships within the philanthropic foundation's science education and local STEM grant initiatives. This role reports to the Senior Manager and Portfolio Lead.
  • The primary focus is to coordinate essential activities for the foundation's science education initiatives, ensuring effective staff involvement with the programming.
  • Support for the foundation's science education initiatives, including:
  • Management of selected science education grants, which involves inviting and reviewing funding proposals, maintaining relationships with nonprofit partners, and communicating the impact of the portfolio.
  • Providing communication support through copywriting and presentations to enhance staff and community awareness of the foundation's efforts.
  • Facilitating staff participation in programmatic events, such as student symposiums and visits to local educational settings.
  • On-the-ground project management, participant engagement, and evaluation support for new initiatives related to high school laboratory programs.
  • Administrative assistance for managing volunteer opportunities that allow staff to engage with the foundation's science education initiatives.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline is required, with a preference for life sciences; a master's degree is advantageous.
  • 3+ years of experience in science education is strongly preferred (K-12 or undergraduate).
  • Laboratory research experience is a plus.
  • Experience in managing volunteer initiatives and training programs is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively engage and develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • A strategic thinker capable of collaborating across various business lines to achieve shared objectives.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to cultivate effective, collaborative partnerships.
  • Sound judgment and strong decision-making capabilities, with the ability to independently drive defined goals.
