Position Overview
The Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) delivers immediate support to individuals and their support networks during mental health emergencies within the community. Operating under the guidance of management, the CIS ensures compliance with all operational protocols and standards.
Work Schedule:
Tuesday through Saturday
12:30 AM - 8:30 AM
Key Responsibilities
Direct Support
- Respond promptly to behavioral health emergencies received through emergency services.
- Perform thorough assessments for individuals experiencing crises.
- Manage crisis situations effectively and safely.
- Provide psycho-educational support, skills training, and crisis counseling in various community settings.
- Assist individuals in transitioning to safer environments, including higher levels of care.
- Facilitate admissions to appropriate care facilities or connect individuals with community resources.
- Collaborate with other emergency responders to address behavioral health situations.
- Conduct follow-up outreach to ensure individuals have access to necessary treatment and resources post-crisis.
- Complete all required documentation in accordance with organizational, funding, and accreditation standards.
- Participate in community outreach and teamwork, providing referrals and case management support for individuals and families during interactions, whether via phone, in the community, or during discharge processes.
- Represent the organization at community functions and events.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, anthropology, political science, history, criminal justice, theology, nursing, counseling, education, or a related field is preferred. A high school diploma with three years of relevant lived experience is required.
- Peer Specialist Certification is a plus.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
This role functions as an emergency responder, requiring work in diverse and unpredictable environments. Employees are expected to operate in various weather conditions and may be called upon to assist during significant community events or emergencies. The position carries a risk of exposure to communicable diseases and interactions with individuals in distress. There may be instances of verbal aggression from those served. The role requires physical capability to assist individuals with limited mobility in and out of agency vehicles. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and reaching are necessary, along with a willingness to travel as needed for job responsibilities.
Compensation
$24.00 per hour.
