We are currently looking for a qualified Billing Clerk to manage assigned super bills and execute various billing tasks. This role demands meticulous attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  1. Adhere to communication protocols with patients, colleagues, and supervisors.
  2. Engage with patients to enhance their health outcomes through effective communication.
  3. Input, verify, and update patient registration data in the practice management system while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.
  4. Address inquiries regarding account balances and billing in a professional manner, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  5. Utilize proper phone etiquette to handle incoming calls professionally.
  6. Maintain proficiency in registration and charge posting across all specialties and sub-specialties.
  7. Provide administrative support and technical assistance to Patient Service Coordinators concerning financial and insurance matters.
  8. Process encounters and claims by reviewing all submissions for accuracy and coordinating corrections with clinical staff.
  9. Monitor unresolved encounter reports daily and follow up to resolve outstanding claims.
  10. Prepare batches for electronic submission after thorough review of encounters.
  11. Keep a log of errors encountered during processing to identify patterns and report findings regularly.
  12. Ensure accuracy in health insurance claims and payments based on contractual agreements and payer guidelines.
Claims Management

Responsibilities include:

  1. Managing aged receivables and claim denials by running necessary reports and coordinating coding changes in the practice management system.
  2. Organizing and filing all paper correspondence, including Explanation of Benefits from insurance companies.
  3. Collaborating with the Patient Account Receivable team to ensure timely and accurate payments.
Additional Duties

As needed, the Billing Clerk may:

  1. Participate in training sessions related to billing and revenue cycle practices.
  2. Provide backup support for billing department functions, including charge posting and electronic billing preparation.
  3. Coordinate with clinical staff to rectify registration errors, missing charges, and coding discrepancies.
  4. Inform patients about clinic policies regarding payment arrangements and financial assistance options.
  5. Advise the Finance Department on accounts with outstanding balances for potential payment plans.
  6. Assist in generating billing-related reports and collaborate with Data Systems staff for reporting needs.
  7. Analyze workflow processes and suggest improvements.
  8. Maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of employees, patients, and business partners.
  9. Perform all tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Two years of experience in health insurance billing is preferred.
  • Familiarity with state programs such as MediCal, Medicare, and commercial insurances.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • One year of experience with standard ICD-10 medical and dental coding.
  • Completion of a Medical Terminology course.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License or reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, sit, type, reach, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $20.35 to $28.00 per hour, with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) with employer contribution, holiday pay, and paid time off.
