Position OverviewAECOM is seeking a seasoned Sediment Remediation Specialist with robust technical and leadership capabilities to spearhead high-profile projects focused on contaminated sediments across North America, particularly in the Pacific Northwest. The primary operations will be based out of our regional offices, with flexibility in home office arrangements, although regular collaboration with team members will be essential.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and proven experience in the investigation, remediation, and restoration of contaminated sediment sites, utilizing both established practices and innovative technologies. A successful applicant must demonstrate clear and effective communication skills, manage junior staff and subcontractors efficiently, and ensure compliance with safety and project requirements. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are critical for thriving in our collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Overseeing assessments, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and implementation for the cleanup of complex sediment sites under relevant environmental regulations.
• Directing environmental sampling initiatives and critically analyzing laboratory results for project planning and design.
• Developing comprehensive Conceptual Site Models.
• Conducting feasibility and treatability studies to assess remediation options.
• Implementing innovative solutions for the remediation of contaminated sediment sites.
• Maintaining regular communication with clients and regulatory bodies regarding project management and technical matters.
• Creating sediment remedial design plans, specifications, and construction documentation.
• Overseeing remedial actions, ensuring quality assurance, and managing long-term monitoring programs.
• Ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations through diligent research.
• Providing training and leadership development in sediment remediation practices.
• Leading a multidisciplinary engineering team and recruiting additional staff as necessary.
• Achieving AECOM Project Management certification.
• Coordinating multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects effectively.
• Engaging in proactive client outreach and partnership development.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field, such as environmental, chemical, civil, or geotechnical engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental consulting, industry representation, or regulatory roles focused on sediment remediation.
- Valid Driver's license.
- U.S. Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.
Preferred Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience in environmental consulting or regulatory roles related to sediment remediation.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license or the ability to obtain one in relevant states is advantageous.
- Experience in preparing remedial design documents.
- Direct experience negotiating site assessment strategies and cleanup objectives at multiple responsible party sites.
- Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, as well as stakeholder concerns.
- Strong understanding of health and safety protocols for aquatic environments.
- Experience in developing compliance reports for hazardous constituents in sediment.
- Familiarity with site investigation techniques and remediation strategy development.
- Specialized knowledge in sediment transport and recontamination evaluations to support remedial analyses.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong writing and review skills for complex technical documents.
- Master's degree in a relevant field is a plus.
- Detail-oriented with a methodical approach to work.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in supervising subcontractors to ensure compliance with work scopes and safety standards.
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification and current refresher training.
- Proficiency in government-compliant technical reporting and recordkeeping.
- Familiarity with software tools such as MS Office, ACAD, and ESRI ARC GIS.
