Compensation: $22-29 hourly, Depending upon experience and certifications
Job Summary: This role involves the repair, restoration, and reconstruction of railroad rolling stock (train cars) in compliance with Federal and Company regulations and specifications. The position primarily focuses on welding and fabrication while also requiring a willingness to learn and engage in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and HVAC tasks. The technician will maintain and rebuild train cars from the wheelsets up.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Repair, restore, and construct railroad car rolling stock, including but not limited to windows, walls, HVAC systems, water and waste systems, woodworking, metal fabrication, electrical work, painting, and plumbing.
- Perform routine maintenance on generator railcars.
- Manufacture and repair necessary components related to steam and diesel locomotives, historic railroad passenger cars, and freight cars while adapting to a dynamic work environment.
- Fabricate parts and components from scratch for various applications and projects as required.
- Interpret verbal and written instructions, including reading blueprints, while planning and executing the scope of work.
- Conduct daily and periodic inspections of equipment to identify necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Assist in the repair and installation of HVAC systems on railcars.
- Adhere to GSMR procedures, safety protocols, and operating rules.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure positive experiences for passengers and guests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Skills, and Work Experience:
- The ideal candidate should possess a willingness to learn and gain additional experience and/or certifications.
- Skills required include woodworking, metal fabrication, welding, basic plumbing, basic electrical work, painting, HVAC, and demolition.
- Effective communication skills in both written and spoken English are essential.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, up to 12 hours.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to navigate train steps/ladders and crawl around locomotive and passenger cars while performing maintenance tasks.
- Good balance and equilibrium are necessary to walk on moving trains and uneven surfaces while carrying tools and parts.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize workload effectively.
- Ability to communicate successfully with diverse personalities and work effectively as part of a team.
- Physical agility to climb, crawl, stoop, and bend during task performance.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Participation in a Pre-Employment & Random Drug Testing program in compliance with company policy.
- A valid Driver's License and the ability to pass a DMV check.
- Successful completion of a WorkSTEPS physical test and respiratory FIT test is required.
- Completion and passing of an internal skills test are mandatory.
- Work on and off the train in varied terrain and weather conditions during both day and night.
- Engage in various shop settings, including the railyard.
- May require working in different locations and adverse weather conditions to repair equipment.
$22-29 hourly
