Position Overview:
The Senior Surgical Technologist at UPMC Hamot plays a crucial role in the Operating Room, ensuring that surgical procedures are conducted safely and efficiently. This position requires a high level of expertise and experience in various surgical specialties.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of surgical technicians, providing guidance and support.
2. Lead surgical teams during procedures, addressing any questions or concerns that may arise.
3. Educate new staff and students on essential skills and theoretical knowledge.
4. Collaborate with Nurse Specialists to manage supplies and equipment, ensuring patient safety.
5. Ensure all medications are properly labeled and delivered to the surgical team in accordance with established protocols.
6. Participate in scheduling surgical procedures as needed.
7. Proactively address and resolve patient and technical issues to enhance operating room efficiency.
8. Work closely with Sterile Processing to maintain the integrity of surgical instruments and supplies.
9. Conduct annual in-service training sessions under the direction of clinical leadership.
10. Maintain a clean and safe operating environment by adhering to safety protocols and aseptic techniques.

Qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in an Operating Room setting is required.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technician program from a recognized institution.
- Advanced knowledge in at least three surgical specialties is essential.
- Strong performance evaluations are necessary for internal candidates.

Licensure and Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) is mandatory.
- Compliance with Act 31, Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 clearances is required.
