Job Summary

Michigan Medicine is seeking a skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our pediatric acute care team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the preparation and delivery of patient medications, working closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to ensure the highest level of patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals
  • Prepare sterile products, injections, and IV chemotherapy
  • Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units
  • Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage
  • Deliver medications to nursing units, including surgical rooms
  • Stock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, and properly dispose of expired medications
  • Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols
  • Respond and triage telephone and electronic message inquiries
  • Assist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilization
  • Build various medication kits, providing support to multiple professions
  • Assist with training of staff
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medications

Requirements
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program
  • Basic algebra, including performing pharmacy calculations
Work Schedule

Full and part-time positions are available on days, afternoons, or midnights. Technicians are expected to work every second weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and provide holiday coverage. Technicians' main work area will be in Children and Women's Hospital Main or Operating Room Pharmacy.

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer. This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP).
