Fleet Maintenance Technician Job Description

This entry-level position is a manual and semi-skilled role in the servicing, maintenance, and repair of diesel and gasoline engine powered equipment. Under the direction of the Fleet Services Manager or Lead Mechanic, a Fleet Maintenance Technician performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled duties in the servicing, maintenance, and minor repair of internal combustion equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preventive maintenance services for all DPW and other departmental vehicles
  • Tire care and replacement on all DPW vehicles
  • Assists with repair and maintenance of small engine equipment

Requirements:

  • A Fleet Maintenance Technician must be available to work nights, weekends, overtime, and at odd hours when emergency conditions require such duty
  • Solid work ethic, integrity, accountability, emotional intelligence, and initiative to effectively perform the duties of the position
  • Associate's degree from an accredited program in automotive mechanics or high school diploma/GED and a minimum of two years of recent paid work experience in the automotive or heavy truck maintenance repair field
  • Meet City guidelines for operating vehicles
  • Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver's license and acceptable driving record per City policy
  • Ability to obtain Class B,C Commercial Driver License with Tanker Endorsement within 12 months of hire
