Position: Stationary Engineer II (NARA II) – Tour Engineer

Overview: We are seeking a qualified Stationary Engineer II to oversee the inspections and safe operation of chilled water and steam systems. This role serves as a primary contact for facility operations during non-standard hours, ensuring 24/7 operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Assistant Chief Operating Engineer while also taking direction from senior engineers and management as needed.
  • Conduct regular facility tours, performing inspections and checks in line with established protocols.
  • Execute minor repairs and adjustments to mechanical and electrical systems during operational tours.
  • Perform thorough inspections of equipment to ensure optimal functionality of HVAC systems.
  • Address occupant concerns regarding temperature and humidity, making necessary adjustments to maintain comfort.
  • Ensure efficient operation of equipment during assigned tours, conducting routine maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor auxiliary systems to maintain balanced loads and acceptable indoor conditions.
  • Inspect and maintain major equipment including chillers, boilers, and associated systems.
  • Read and interpret operational gauges and logs to track performance metrics.
  • Manage boiler water quality and chemical levels, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Isolate equipment for safe inspections and repairs, coordinating with other trades as required.
  • Document operational data and maintain logs of maintenance activities.
  • Respond flexibly to critical operational needs on a 24/7 basis.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Maryland 3rd Class Steam Engineer License; a valid DC 3rd Class may be considered.
  • Preferred: Valid Maryland 1st Class Steam Engineer License.
  • CFC Universal License is required.
  • Familiarity with fire regulations and relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Experience in a similar operational environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency in HVAC systems and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics.
  • Knowledge of Chiller/Boiler Plant Operations and Building Automated Controls.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and push up to 100 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility for equipment handling.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks including reaching, stooping, and bending.
