Overview:
The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the provision of high-quality, cost-efficient care to patients.

This role involves collaborating with the Director to analyze, plan, implement, evaluate, and communicate processes and programs that enhance and integrate the services within the nursing department.

The Supervisor participates in the development and execution of strategic business plans for the service line, fostering an environment that promotes continuous improvement in operational, financial, and clinical aspects.

This position assumes primary responsibility for the effective supervision of nursing activities in designated areas. It also involves managing financial and human resources to ensure that services meet established quality and productivity benchmarks. The Supervisor provides feedback and support regarding customer satisfaction, staff development, and employee performance and satisfaction. This role oversees the daily operations of a Nursing department around the clock.

The Supervisor collaborates with other clinical and ancillary departments to achieve organizational and department-specific Quality and Safety Measures, Community Values, Business Literacy, and Service Excellence objectives.

  • Implement and monitor programs and practices that ensure safe and efficient delivery of quality nursing care for patients and their families.
  • Ensure consistent application of nursing service policies and standards throughout the organization.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and assess the quality and effectiveness of nursing care.
  • Oversee team performance; identify and address staff training and development needs.
  • Evaluate and specify critical resources required to meet team objectives.
  • Initiate requests for necessary resources based on staff competency and patient acuity.
  • Allocate team resources responsibly and equitably within labor law parameters.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance resource utilization.
  • Implement role changes consistent with scope of practice.
  • Anticipate and plan for admission, discharge, and transfer needs to facilitate patient flow.
  • Resolve conflicts in various situations, including workload or resource allocation, patient and family concerns, and associate engagement challenges.
  • Adapt management and personal style to meet the needs of diverse individuals and situations.
  • Explore motivational factors and tailor motivational efforts to individual needs and circumstances within the department.
  • Conduct evaluations of personnel performance and recommend improvement plans.
  • Coach others on personnel management systems and processes.
  • Manage daily labor needs by maintaining optimal staffing levels.
  • Apply crisis management principles to identify urgent issues, handle situations as necessary, and manage conflicts.
  • Mentor and coach staff.
  • Encourage participation in professional organizations.
  • Promote self-awareness principles.
  • Foster a healthy work environment and encourage stress management.

Qualifications:
Education/Skills: Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required for Magnet facilities, otherwise preferred. Experience: 2 years of clinical patient care experience in a relevant setting. Previous leadership or supervisory experience overseeing assigned units is preferred. Previous healthcare management experience is preferred. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: BLS required. RN License in the state of employment or compact.
