The PositionThe COO will lead a team of three direct reports and indirectly oversee five additional staff members. The primary responsibility will be to enhance the entire electric system, which includes various fiber projects. The COO will work closely with Assistant Directors, facilitating negotiations, mediating conflicts, and employing interpersonal skills to cultivate a unified vision. A key aspect of this role is the ability to introduce innovative ideas while maintaining a comprehensive perspective of the organization. Furthermore, the COO will play a vital role in shaping and implementing the labor relations strategy, particularly in relation to union matters.
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for the COO role should have a solid background in electric utilities, with a minimum of seven years of experience in supervisory, managerial, or directorial positions. Familiarity with gas, water, wastewater, and fiber systems is essential. Additionally, the COO must possess a robust understanding of electric operations, regulatory compliance, technical standards, and specific state regulations.
Minimum Qualifications:- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, business, public administration, or a field directly relevant to utility management.
- A Professional Engineering License and/or a Master’s degree in public or business administration or a related discipline is preferred.
- Seven years of experience in engineering, operations, and/or business within a multi-utilities organization, with at least five years in a senior management role.
- A progressive career trajectory with increasing supervisory responsibilities across broader organizational elements.
The salary range for this position is $200,000 to $333,341 annually, with placement within this range dependent on qualifications. The organization also offers a competitive benefits package.
