Position Overview:

The Electrical Systems Engineer plays a pivotal role in the design, configuration, integration, and execution of control solutions for our manufacturing operations. This position will also support capital projects, maintenance activities, and ensure safety standards are upheld with minimal disruption to production. The role may require travel to various facilities as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, install, and oversee electrical and mechanical control systems and machinery.
  • Analyze plant operations to implement enhancements and innovative designs that boost efficiency and productivity.
  • Provide technical support for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and associated hardware/software, utilizing engineering principles to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Support process engineering by:
    • gaining comprehensive knowledge of process and unit operations, including control systems configuration;
    • optimizing processes and improving yield for various initiatives;
    • offering backup support to other engineering personnel;
    • configuring interfaces between control systems and other computer systems.
  • Deliver ongoing training for electrical teams to foster effective operating and maintenance practices.
  • Collaborate with electrical supervisors to maintain documentation related to control system configurations.
  • Assist in planning and budgeting for maintenance shutdowns.
  • Guide maintenance teams in strategic thinking regarding downtime prevention and long-term solutions.
  • Promote a culture of efficiency and rapid response to downtime occurrences.
  • Work alongside operational teams to drive continuous improvement in asset performance.
  • Plan and coordinate the technical design and engineering implementation of projects.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with plant operations for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Provide support for maintenance, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives, including:
    • developing electrical and control plans,
    • preparing electrical budgets, and
    • collaborating with internal and external contractors as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant standards and policies within the area of responsibility.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
  • On-site presence is essential for fulfilling the outlined responsibilities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of plant equipment and processes with the ability to troubleshoot effectively.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and capable of managing multiple tasks in an organized manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead or collaborate within a team.
  • Willingness to travel to various facilities and work during weekends or holidays as required.
  • Expertise in full controls integration, including electrical/instrumentation design, PLC, and HMI.
  • Proficient in using software tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project, SQL, Access, CMMS, and AutoCAD.
  • Experienced in developing and implementing discrete and analog control schemes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of measurement and calibration techniques for pressure, flow, level, and temperature.
  • Exceptional analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities; capable of innovative thinking to address complex challenges.
  • High standards of personal integrity and professionalism.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Education and Experience:
  • Oregon electrical license required (Plant Manufacturing Journey or General Journey License).
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience is required.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
  • Experience in continuous manufacturing processes is essential.
  • Hands-on experience with steam, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley & Simatic/TI505 PLCs, Wonderware HMI, FactoryTalk, or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in Ethernet network design and implementation, including fiber and 10/100/1000BaseTX is necessary.
