Job Summary

This position performs routine clerical, administrative, and clinical duties within the scope allowed for TN state law. The Medical Assistant will work collaboratively and effectively with physicians, providers, fellow team members, patients, and the general public in the performance of all job duties.

ResponsibilitiesClinical
  • Gathers clinical data and maintains documentation in the clinical record to ensure accurate tracking of medical treatment.
  • Notifies physician/provider and/or the Registered Nurse immediately of patient's status, pending lab test results, and any abnormal data/complaints observed or obtained from the patient.
  • Triages patients appropriately and informs physician/provider of issues in a timely manner.
  • Prepares and administers medication, allergy serum, immunizations, O2, treatments, and tests as ordered.
  • Conducts CLIA waived testing and follows established lab protocol/guidelines.
  • Handles various specimens/cultures and infection control in the handling and disposing of infectious/hazardous waste materials.
  • Uses/operates/troubleshoots various equipment needed in delivering patient care.
Administrative
  • Schedules patient appointments by obtaining demographic information, informing patient of financial liability, and obtaining necessary consent forms.
  • Verifies provider insurance participation and accurately utilizes the Appointment Management in PM.
  • Schedules patients for tests and informs them as to what to expect.
  • Completes patient referrals and authorizations in a timely manner.
  • Follows-up on referrals and procedures in Orders Management.
Clerical
  • Answers phones and returns phone calls/voice mail in a positive and professional manner.
  • Orders supplies/accessories timely to avoid shortages/outages.
  • Completes HMA required forms accurately and timely.
  • Complies with HMA policies and procedures and accreditation agencies.
Requirements

Possess a Degree, Diploma or Certificate of Completion from an accredited Medical Assistant training program or have a minimum of 1-year prior experience functioning as a Medical Assistant in a clinic/hospital setting.

Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required.

Must be able to stand for 8 to 10 hours a day and lift at least 25lbs.
