The **Shop Operations Manager** will oversee the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment and related components, adhering to established procedures and guidelines. This leader will work with a team to provide mechanical services that meet customer needs and achieve departmental goals.
Key Responsibilities- Contribute to a positive work environment and promote the vision, mission, and values of Blanchard Machinery.
- Complete all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promoting and championing a safe and healthy work environment.
- Monitor physical requirements for work completion (facilities, tools, environmental) and communicate same on an ongoing basis to his/her supervisor.
- Achieve labor sales and utilization expectations as set by supervisor/manager to ensure team revenue targets are met.
- Perform job duties of a Service Supervisor during periods of his/her absence.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
- Provide quality control/assurance inspections of completed tasks.
- Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturers' specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling.
- Rebuild, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
- Demonstrate good customer relations and support; communicate customer needs to shop management.
- Plan and control cost of repair jobs.
- Complete parts orders and identify parts for return.
- Provide a significant amount of task and behavior-oriented supervision, mentoring, and training to others.
- Maintain all equipment and work areas in good, clean, and orderly condition.
- Work safely at all times and adhere to all applicable safety policies; comply with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Work overtime as required by workload and customers.
- High school diploma required.
- 10+ years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel equipment preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Proficient with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
- Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings.
- Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
- Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and proper repair procedures is required.
- Must be able to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics, operating and maintenance service manuals.
- Organizational and time management skills required. Must have the ability to set and keep priorities and professionally handle the stress associated with dealing with a fast-paced industry and deadlines.
- Must be a team player that is enthusiastic and hardworking with the ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
- High degree of interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral communication skills is required.
- Must possess the personal discipline to establish the proper image as a representative of Blanchard with the ability to meet and work with the customer in a professional manner.
- Strong problem-solving skills and be detailed-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- The physical environment requires the employee to work primarily inside (non-climate-controlled) throughout the day.
- Regularly works indoors around moving mechanical parts.
- Exposure to small quantities of chemicals, dust, steam, high-pressure water, and high-speed rotating equipment.
- Required to perform work in cramped spaces and/or high places.
- Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials.
- Job requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Physical use of a broad variety of tools and machines in order to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment.
- Must be able to lift varied weight.
- Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
- Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
