Position Overview:

The Senior CT Technologist plays a crucial role in executing computerized tomographic (CT) examinations and procedures under both direct and indirect supervision within the CT service areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts computed tomography studies and procedures, ensuring optimal patient positioning and immobilization techniques. Selects appropriate technical factors and protocols tailored to each patient's needs. Collaborates with attending Radiologists and Registered Nurses as necessary, while maintaining comprehensive records of performed exams.
  • Manages orders from the Protocol Worklist prior to scheduling, ensuring all protocols are followed.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals, verifying patient identity using established criteria before proceeding with examinations. Maintains accuracy in data entry while upholding patient confidentiality and privacy. Documents necessary information in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and operates the contrast injector while screening for contraindications.
  • Prepares sterile environments and contrast agents, ensuring the sterility of surgical packs and disposables. Maintains adequate supplies throughout procedures.
  • Assists Radiologists during procedures by capturing essential interventional CT images and aiding in biopsy specimen collection. Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the CT systems' features and performance capabilities.
  • Post-processes CT images as needed, including reformatted images and 3D renderings, and prepares images for Radiologist interpretation, transmitting them to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system.
  • Maintains proficiency with all departmental equipment, promptly reporting any malfunctions.
  • Ensures patient comfort and safety during procedures, maintaining intravenous (IV) access and providing clear communication regarding the process. Strives to create a compassionate and individualized patient care environment.
  • Instructs patients, family members, and hospital staff on safety measures, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and minimizing radiation exposure through ALARA principles. Records radiation doses delivered during procedures.
  • Participates as a member of the resuscitation team during emergency situations.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the assigned room and manages daily linen and material supplies.
  • Supervises student technologists during clinical assignments and shares on-call responsibilities for CT service areas.
  • Mentors new personnel on operational procedures as needed.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  • Attends departmental meetings and in-service presentations, reviewing minutes when unable to attend.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as a CT technologist.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in radiologic technology or two (2) years of directly related experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Radiographer License (Hawaii)
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate in Computed Tomography

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years of successful experience as a CT technologist.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring in CT.
  • Bachelor's degree in allied health care or a related field.
