Position Overview:

The Senior CT Technologist plays a crucial role in executing computerized tomographic (CT) examinations and procedures under both direct and indirect supervision within the CT service areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts computed tomography studies and procedures, ensuring optimal patient positioning and immobilization. Selects appropriate technical factors and protocols tailored to each patient’s needs. Collaborates with attending Radiologists and Registered Nurses, reviewing orders and preparing schedules as necessary. Maintains accurate daily records of examinations performed.
  • Manages protocol orders from the Protocol Worklist prior to scheduling.
  • Adheres to all National Patient Safety Goals, verifying patient identity using established criteria before conducting the ordered study. Ensures accuracy in information and data entry while safeguarding patient privacy and confidentiality. Captures necessary documentation in the Radiology Information System (RIS) and operates the contrast injector while screening patients for contraindications.
  • Prepares sterile fields and contrast agents, ensuring the sterility of surgical packs, trays, and disposables used in the assigned area. Maintains adequate supplies throughout procedures.
  • Assists Radiologists during procedures by capturing specific interventional CT images and aiding in biopsy specimen collection. Demonstrates proficiency in operating and understanding all features of the CT systems.
  • Post-processes CT images as needed (including reformatted images and 3D images) and prepares them for Radiologist interpretation, transmitting images to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system.
  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of all departmental equipment and devices, reporting any malfunctions promptly.
  • Takes responsibility for patient needs during procedures, ensuring IV access is maintained and providing clear, compassionate communication regarding the procedure.
  • Instructs patients, family members, and hospital staff on safety measures, ensuring adherence to safety precautions. Applies ALARA principles to minimize radiation exposure and records radiation doses delivered during procedures.
  • Participates as a member of the resuscitation team during emergency situations.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of the assigned room and ensures all materials and linen supplies are stocked daily.
  • Supervises student technologists during their clinical assignments and shares on-call responsibilities for CT service areas.
  • Mentors new personnel on subsection operations as required.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  • Attends departmental meetings and in-service presentations as required, reviewing minutes from meetings when unable to attend.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as a CT technologist.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in radiologic technology or two (2) years of directly related experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Radiographer License (Hawaii)
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate in Computed Tomography

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as a CT technologist.
  • Documented experience in technical leadership and mentoring in CT.
  • Bachelor's degree in allied health care or a related field.
