Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Peri-Anesthesia Nurse to join our team at the San Diego Outpatient Surgical Center. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care in the preoperative and postoperative units, ensuring a smooth and safe transition for patients undergoing surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and prepare patients for surgery, ensuring they understand the procedure and any necessary instructions.
  • Coordinate with business office staff to maintain efficient patient flow and ensure timely admissions.
  • Provide education and information to patients, completing nursing assessments and documentation as required.
  • Start IV treatments as necessary and administer medications as ordered by a physician.
  • Monitor patients' recovering from sedation and/or anesthesia, recognizing life-threatening arrhythmias and initiating appropriate therapy.
  • Perform venipuncture for IV restarts and administer medications as ordered.
  • Prepare patients for discharge with post-operative instruction and teaching.
Requirements
  • Current and valid license as a registered nurse in the State.
  • Three years of clinical experience, preferably as a preoperative nurse in an ambulatory surgery facility.
  • Bachelor degree in nursing preferred.
  • BCLS and ACLS Certification required.
  • IV therapy and experience.
  • Ability to communicate well with other healthcare professionals and lay persons.
Physical Requirements
  • Must exhibit desirable trunk and extremity mobility and strength to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds safely.
  • Must be able to push gurneys with patient up to 400 pounds (2 people pushing gurney).
  • Must be able to see, hear and speak English.
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods.
