Job Summary:

As a key member of the Kaiser Permanente healthcare team, the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist plays a critical role in providing high-quality anesthesia care to patients undergoing various medical procedures. Under the medical supervision of an anesthesiologist, this professional administers general and regional anesthesia for a wide range of surgical, obstetrical, and other procedures, catering to patients of diverse age groups, including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate Patients Pre-Operatively: Conduct thorough interviews and examinations to assess patients' medical history and current health status.
  • Review Patient Charts: Carefully review patients' medical records to gather relevant information and identify potential risks or complications.
  • Select Anesthetic: Collaborate with anesthesiologists to select the most suitable anesthetic for each patient based on their pre-operative examination and medical history.
  • Monitor Patients Intraoperatively: Continuously monitor patients' vital signs and respond promptly to any changes or complications during the procedure.
  • Evaluate Post-Operative Condition: Assess patients' condition within 24 hours of the procedure and take necessary actions to ensure their stability and comfort.
  • Precept Student Nurse Anesthetists: Provide guidance and mentorship to student nurse anesthetists to help them develop their skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain accurate and detailed records of controlled substances, equipment, and supplies, adhering to departmental guidelines and regulations.
  • Establish and Maintain Positive Relationships: Foster courteous and cooperative relationships with patients, staff, and other personnel, ensuring a positive and respectful work environment.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduate of an educational program in Nurse Anesthesia accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs and Schools.
  • License and Certification: Registered Nurse License (California), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (California), Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support, National Provider Identifier, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist National Certification.
  • Experience: Experience in anesthesia for major procedures involving extensive monitoring and fluid, blood, and electrolyte replacement for various age group patients.
Additional Requirements:
  • Technical and Professional Skills: Demonstrate technical and professional skills, including knowledge of equipment, supplies, and procedures within the scope of practice as defined by the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
