We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Engineer Supervisor to join our team at the National Electric Energy Testing, Research and Applications Center (NEETRAC) at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Job SummaryThe Research Engineer Supervisor will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in the development and implementation of research and testing projects. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering and experience in supervising engineers in a research and development environment.
Responsibilities- Serve on the NEETRAC Leadership Team, helping to develop NEETRAC operational strategy and providing day-to-day leadership and input on the management of NEETRAC.
- Monitor individual engineer work activities and work with the Technician Supervisor to help maximize customer service and assure that engineering staff have the resources needed to do their job.
- Work/consult with NEETRAC Chief Engineers as needed to help assure that project work is performed appropriately.
- Prepare performance reviews along with development and training plans for each engineer and perform regular monitoring and updates of both.
- Work with GT Human Resources to advocate for research engineer promotions and raises as appropriate, including the development of NEETRAC-specific progression opportunities.
- Ensuring that all safety procedures are in place and followed by team members.
- Coordinating with engineers or other supervisors to set priorities for projects and ensuring that they are met.
- Reviewing project proposals to determine feasibility, scope, cost estimates, and timelines.
- Evaluating employee performance and providing feedback to help them improve their skills.
- Monitoring the work of engineers to ensure that they are adhering to work plans and testing specifications.
- This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook.
- Research Engineer I: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related area.
- Research Engineer II: A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or A Doctoral degree.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology or a related field (highly preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in engineering or a related field.
- Engineering supervision/management experience (highly preferred).
- Experience developing employees (training and growth).
- Strong leadership and communication skills and experience working in a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects and engineers.
- Experience with project management software and tools.
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Knowledge of the electric utility industry (highly preferred).
- Some knowledge of laboratory operations, testing procedures or product design.
- Some experience interfacing with academic institutions and research development.
