Job Title: Recreation Specialist

Join the City of Jacksonville, FL team as a Recreation Specialist and contribute to the development and implementation of recreational, leisure, social, and athletic activities and programs.

Job Summary:

This is a technical work position at the working supervisor level that requires a knowledge of methods, techniques, practices, and procedures associated with developing and implementing recreational, leisure, social, and athletic activities and programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and oversees recreational, leisure, social, homework assistance, and athletic activities and programs.
  • Assigns, schedules, monitors, directs, reviews, and evaluates the work of assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Maintains required records on activities and participants for preparation of reports.
  • Explains and demonstrates the methods, techniques, and procedures associated with recreational and athletic activities and provides on-site and classroom training to assigned staff and volunteers.
  • Schedules transportation for participants to different sites for field trips, sports competitions, and special events.
  • Inspects facilities and equipment to ensure cleanliness, safety, adequacy, and maintenance needs and arranges for repairs or maintenance as needed.
  • Administers emergency first aid when required.
  • Operates motor vehicles, athletic equipment, and personal computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other related software, peripheral, and electronic devices, copiers, and calculators.
Requirements:
  • Four years of education and/or experience in developing or overseeing recreational, athletic, or educational activities and programs.
  • Must pass background screening on a local, state, and federal level as required by the State of Florida Children and Family Services.
  • Must secure CPR and First Aid Certification within 6 months.
  • A valid driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained.
  • Depending on assignment, a valid Class B with P Endorsement Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required within 90 days of employment and must be maintained.
