Position Overview:
The Lead Civil Engineering Specialist will be responsible for the preparation and oversight of site development plans and specifications tailored for commercial and industrial projects, ensuring compliance with client specifications and local regulations.

This role involves collaboration with various disciplines to address site-related challenges that may influence architectural development and building systems. The specialist will also establish criteria for engaging sub-consultant services.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Define and manage project scope, civil budget, design strategy, and applicable constraints in collaboration with the Civil Engineering Manager, Project Manager, clients, and engineering teams as necessary.
2. Conduct feasibility assessments and civil cost evaluations.
3. Design civil systems, including underground utilities, paving, grading, and drainage for medium to large-scale projects of increasing complexity.
4. Develop site layouts in compliance with zoning laws and other relevant regulations.
5. Edit or create project specifications.
6. Assess design alternatives for review by the Project Manager and/or clients.
7. Monitor project budgets and timelines, adjusting efforts as needed to achieve financial and scheduling objectives.
8. Prepare construction drawings using CAD, with assistance from department staff when required.
9. Perform field measurements and/or survey verifications at project sites, including basic topographic surveying for minor projects.
10. Review drawings for completeness, accuracy, quality, and adherence to standards and codes.
11. Evaluate product submittals (shop drawings) for compliance with contract documents and specify necessary actions for adherence.
12. Maintain project files, transmittals, correspondence, and reports.
13. Assist in the review of standards and maintenance of master specifications.
14. Attend meetings with regulatory agencies as needed to secure site plan approvals, with the ability to address public and governmental groups in open forums being essential.
15. Oversee the production and quality assurance of construction documents in line with company standards, mentoring less experienced staff as necessary.
16. Coordinate projects with other disciplines and provide guidance on site/building system conflicts.
17. Prepare site plan submission documents in accordance with local requirements.
18. Visit construction sites to monitor progress and fulfill contract obligations.
19. Mentor junior staff and assist in developing cost and quantity estimates.
20. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional registration is required.

Experience:
15+ years of relevant experience in site design and civil engineering.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bluebeam is essential.
Familiarity with Infraworks and BIM 360 is advantageous.
Knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology system design, as well as state and federal environmental regulations, is preferred.
Exceptional attention to detail is crucial.
