Position Overview:
The Principal Civil Engineer will be responsible for developing and overseeing site design plans and specifications for commercial and industrial projects, ensuring compliance with client specifications and local regulations.

This role involves collaboration with various disciplines to address site-related challenges that may affect architectural and engineering systems, as well as establishing criteria for engaging sub-consultants.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Define and manage project scope, civil budget, design strategy, and relevant constraints in collaboration with the Civil Engineering Manager, Project Manager, clients, and the engineering team.

2. Conduct feasibility assessments and prepare civil cost projections.

3. Design civil infrastructure, including underground utilities, paving, grading, and drainage for medium to large-scale projects with increasing complexity.

4. Create site layouts in compliance with zoning laws and other relevant regulations.
5. Draft or revise project specifications.
6. Assess design alternatives for review by the Project Manager and/or clients.
7. Monitor project budgets and timelines, adjusting efforts as necessary to achieve financial and scheduling objectives.
8. Produce construction drawings using CAD software, with assistance from departmental staff as needed.
9. Perform field measurements and survey verification at project locations, including basic topographic surveys for minor projects.
10. Review drawings for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to standards and codes.
11. Evaluate product submissions (shop drawings) for compliance with contract specifications and recommend necessary actions.
12. Maintain project documentation, including updates, transmittals, correspondence, and reports.
13. Assist in the review of standards and the upkeep of master specifications.
14. Attend meetings with regulatory agencies to secure site plan approvals, with the ability to address public and governmental groups effectively.
15. Oversee the production and quality assurance of construction documents in line with company standards, mentoring less experienced staff as needed.
16. Coordinate projects with other disciplines and resolve site/building system conflicts.
17. Prepare site plan submission documents according to local guidelines.
18. Conduct site visits to monitor construction progress and fulfill contract obligations.
19. Mentor junior staff and assist in their professional development.
20. Generate cost and quantity estimates.
21. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
Professional registration required.

Experience:
15+ years of relevant experience in site design and civil engineering.
Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Bluebeam is essential.
Familiarity with Infraworks and BIM 360 is advantageous.
Knowledge of hydraulics and hydrology system design, as well as state and federal environmental regulations, is preferred.
Strong attention to detail is crucial.
