Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Emerging Communication and Media Technologies

The School of Journalism and Media at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant professor to begin in the near future. The School is part of the top-ranked Moody College of Communication, which includes programs in Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Studies, Radio-Television-Film, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.
This faculty position will focus on the social, political, and/or economic impacts of emerging communication and media technologies. Emerging media include but are not limited to AI, social media, augmented and virtual reality, streaming media forms, and encrypted systems. The successful candidate may approach these issues from a variety of methodological perspectives. A global perspective is also appreciated, and candidates with expertise in Latin American media systems, audiences, and policies are especially encouraged to apply.
Faculty have access to pre- and post-award external funding support and have opportunities to join the vibrant research center and institute culture in Moody College. For example, this opportunity might include becoming an affiliate member of the Center for Media Engagement, a first-of-its-kind center that conducts groundbreaking research on media practices that benefit democracy, or an affiliate of the Technology & Information Policy Institute, whose members investigate the social impacts of digital media.
Qualifications
- Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. at the time of the appointment.
- Applicants should have a promising or established program of research and publication, a commitment to teaching excellence, and an interest in advising and mentoring graduate students and undertaking collaborative research.
- The ability to actively pursue and secure external funding is also valued.
