- Write programs to collect and distribute data for a variety of applications
- Ensure the proper security and handling of communications materials, systems, and equipment
- Perform diagnostics and data recovery operations and maintain logs
As an Information Systems Technician, you will primarily be stationed aboard ships at sea, while you may also receive shore assignments. Your typical work environment will be a clean, climate-controlled indoor space used to house electronic equipment or computers.
Training and AdvancementUpon completion of initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, you will attend Class A Technical School in Pensacola, FL, for training on Microsoft, Cisco, and Oracle computer software and hardware fundamentals, automatic data processing, security, and system theory and operation. After A School, you may attend submarine training, depending on your role.
Qualifications and RequirementsA high-school diploma or equivalent is required to become an Enlisted Sailor and an Information Systems Technician. You must be a U.S. citizen eligible for a Top Secret security clearance, which requires a background investigation. Immediate family members must also be U.S. citizens. You should have good arithmetic, writing, and speaking skills, and be able to use and understand computers.
