PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general supervision, patrols a designated area and investigates incidents to uphold law and order, ensuring the safety of individuals and property.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives a patrol vehicle to monitor an assigned region, aiming to deter criminal activity and enforce traffic regulations;
- Responds promptly to radio and telephone calls, arriving at locations of disturbances or criminal activity;
- Conducts arrests, issues citations, collects bonds, and testifies in court as the arresting officer;
- Inspects venues serving alcoholic beverages and entertainment to ensure compliance with regulations;
- Intervenes in both private and public disputes to safeguard the community and maintain peace;
- Receives training in various law enforcement practices and related topics;
- Assists with the transport of detainees, supports jail staff, serves protection orders, and delivers criminal summons;
- Identifies and reports traffic hazards; aids in managing traffic during emergencies;
- Investigates incidents and prepares detailed reports on accidents, offenses, and property damage;
- Directs traffic, provides guidance and information, and issues verbal warnings;
- Issues citations for both parking and moving violations;
- Supports medical emergencies and security for special events;
- Assists motorists in distress;
- Investigates crimes and incidents, including livestock issues and animal control;
- Conducts initial and follow-up investigations for crimes involving arson, and interviews individuals with suspicious behavior;
- Addresses complaints, collects and tags evidence, prepares reports on arrests and property collected, and assists in searches for missing persons;
- May participate in a tactical response team;
Additional Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Minimum age of 18 years
- Applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background check, including criminal history, psychological evaluation, and medical examination
- High school diploma or GED required
- Ability to pass a rigorous physical fitness assessment
- Must complete the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy's 8-week Detention Officer Basic Training
- Must successfully pass an oral interview examination
- Candidates must pass an eye-detect test
- Possession of a valid Wyoming Driver's License and acceptable driving record
