Job Overview

APTIM Environmental and Infrastructure is seeking a junior to mid-level engineering professional with a solid foundation in environmental engineering principles. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to delivering high-quality results and efficient designs while collaborating with a distinguished team of Engineers, Geoscientists, and licensed professionals. This role encompasses various responsibilities, including the sampling of diverse environmental media, managing soil, water, and air treatment systems, overseeing construction activities, ensuring quality control, handling hazardous materials, and participating in emergency response operations. Proficiency in MS Excel for data collection and automated data logging is essential, as the role involves both utilizing existing templates and creating new ones to analyze and present valuable data.

Position Summary:

The selected engineer will engage in a range of engineering tasks related to the planning, execution, and oversight of environmental remediation and assessment initiatives. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial, as the role requires effective communication with colleagues, subcontractors, and clients. Under the guidance of a Texas-licensed Professional Engineer, the candidate will develop engineering expertise throughout the design, installation, and operational phases, assist field personnel with remote troubleshooting, manage and analyze treatment system data, supervise larger projects, and contribute to project management efforts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support environmental remediation and construction projects at various client sites, primarily within Texas and occasionally in other states.
  • Perform engineering tasks such as preparing project plans, drawings, and specifications, selecting and procuring mechanical and electrical equipment, and interpreting environmental and engineering data.
  • Implement field activities and supervise subcontractor personnel at project locations.
  • Conduct inspections of environmental and construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications, including limited groundwater, soil, and air sampling.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant engineering codes, standards, and company policies.
  • Participate in on-call environmental field support activities, which may require 24-hour phone support and local site visits.
  • Receive project briefings from Project Managers and/or Project Engineers, manage time effectively to meet project needs, and gradually require less supervision.
  • Primarily support APTIM's TCEQ Superfund Program and Texas Solid Waste Engineering program, with secondary support for other APTIM services.
  • Travel within the state is required, approximately 25% of the time.
Qualifications:
  • 2-8 years of direct experience in environmental engineering, with a preference for candidates having at least 3 years in the field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and web search services; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, and Google Earth is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to accept guidance from senior engineers and managers.
  • Utilize best practices to enhance products or services within the discipline.
  • Monitor and manage costs associated with assigned work, addressing moderately complex problems with innovative solutions.
  • Manage time to meet project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; degrees in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering are preferred.
  • Ability to pass a hazardous materials handling physical and perform typical hazardous materials work activities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites regularly.
  • Regular local travel is expected, with some overnight travel required.
  • Experience with low voltage AC electrical systems, ladder logic programming, and data acquisition is preferred.
  • Participation in engineering-related extracurricular activities is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds from the floor.
