Aquatics Director Job Description

The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aquatics Director to lead our aquatic programs and services. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and enjoyable experience of our members and participants in our aquatic facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer swim lessons and aquatic programs, ensuring high-quality instruction and customer satisfaction.
  • Schedule aquatic classes, programs, and staff, ensuring efficient use of resources and optimal member experience.
  • Provide lifeguard and swim instruction as needed, maintaining a high level of expertise and professionalism.
  • Develop and promote programs with local schools, mailings, and press releases, fostering community engagement and partnerships.
  • Prepare and distribute rosters and schedules for instructors, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
  • Distribute and collect program evaluations, using feedback to improve services and programs.
  • Implement preschool movement programs, promoting physical activity and development for young children.
  • Audit payroll reports, ensuring accurate and timely payment of staff.
  • Increase participation, group, and program numbers, driving membership growth and revenue.
  • Implement Character Development in programs, promoting positive values and behaviors.
  • Administer emergency First Aid and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), ensuring a safe and responsive environment.
  • Handle parent/member complaints, providing exceptional customer service and conflict resolution.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university, with one to three years of recreation, pool management, lifeguard, swim instructor, or water park experience.
  • Past supervision experience preferred, with the ability to demonstrate aquatic skills and react quickly to emergency situations.
  • Working knowledge of a computer and experience with a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to interact with people from all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
