Job Overview

BIOFerm, a leading renewable energy company, is seeking a skilled Biological Systems Engineer to join our team. With a strong focus on sustainable waste diversion, we provide turnkey anaerobic digestion and gas upgrading facilities.

About the Role

We are committed to harnessing biogas from fermenting organics and converting it into valuable green energy, vehicle fuel, heat, and organic products. As a Biological Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for developing project specifications, conceptual design, PFDs, calculations, P&IDs, and operation manuals to meet client requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Development: Develop project specifications, conceptual design, PFD's, calculations, P&IDs, and operation manuals to comply with clients' requirements
  • Optimization: Optimize equipment and facility performance to ensure maximum efficiency
  • Design Outputs: Prepare design outputs, datasheets, and drawings to facilitate smooth progress of engineering work
  • Permitting: Lead the permitting process to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Vendor Management: Establish vendor relationships, develop technical specs, and obtain vendor quotes to procure necessary equipment
  • Engineering Coordination: Coordinate with Project Team and other department engineers to facilitate smooth progress of engineering work
  • Design Review: Review the final plant/process design for approval
  • Construction Support: Consult and assist the Project Manager with design modifications during construction, support the Construction Team during construction phase, and carry out site checks
  • Commissioning Support: Support the Commissioning Team during plant startup, conduct tests, and monitor the process performance
  • Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot and resolve problems to ensure smooth operation
  • Process Evaluation: Evaluate processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and quality standards
  • Reporting: Assemble reports and document processes to track progress and identify areas for improvement
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's or master's degree in Biological Systems Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in a related field, including engineering experience in the biological systems, digester, or gas processing industries
  • Certifications: EIT or PE is a plus
  • Skills: Strong technical abilities and analytical skills, driven attitude, and desire to learn, excellent written and verbal communication skills, proven ability to identify, assess, and solve problems, strong leadership qualities and reasoning abilities, strong organizational skills, documentation skills, and attention to detail
  • Proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing computer software including engineering analysis, word-processing, and database management programs
  • Renewable Energy: Comprehensive understanding of principles of engineering, knowledge of renewable energy concepts and technologies, familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations

$120,000 - $150,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
