To achieve this goal, the institution has launched the RISE Initiative, a program designed to accelerate and strategize faculty hiring, research infrastructure enhancement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and increased student and educational opportunities.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at UW-Madison seeks applicants at all ranks in the general area of Immune System-Microbiome Interactions in Health and Disease. The successful candidate will have expertise in developing tissue engineering and/or microphysiological models, as well as engineering strategies to target the human microbiome to restore and modulate immune functions.

A key responsibility of the position will be to develop an innovative research program in engineering approaches to study immune system-microbiome interactions. Additionally, the professor will teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in Biomedical Engineering, foster a diverse student population, mentor graduate students, and supervise their research.

The ideal candidate will be interested in collaborative work with existing centers and faculty in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and throughout campus. The professor will also participate in departmental and university faculty governance, outreach, and service in industry and government.

The salary for this position is estimated to be around $120,000-$180,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering enrolls approximately 650 undergraduate students and 120 MS and PhD students from all over the world. The department has a strong commitment to promoting diversity and engaging in inclusive practices in our learning and research environments.

This is a full-time, ongoing/renewable appointment with an anticipated start date of August 18, 2025. The successful candidate will be required to work onsite at a designated campus work location.

To be considered, applicants must have a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences or related field, with demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. Associate and Full professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Divisional Committee and of the College of Engineering.
