Special Education Teacher Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our school community in New London, NC. The ideal candidate will deliver specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, fostering their academic, social, and emotional growth in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
  • Adjust the general education curriculum to accommodate students with different learning abilities.
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers, school staff, and parents to enhance student learning and development.
  • Employ a variety of instructional strategies and resources to promote student success.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, making necessary instructional adjustments.
  • Maintain a safe and positive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other professional activities.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of student performance and progress.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in special education.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Licensure: Valid North Carolina Professional Educators License in Special Education (K-12). Must meet North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requirements.
  • Certifications: Appropriate teaching certification in Special Education. Additional certifications as mandated by the state of North Carolina.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with students with disabilities preferred. Experience in developing and implementing IEPs is beneficial.
  • Skills: Comprehensive understanding of special education laws and regulations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment. Strong organizational and time management skills. Patience, creativity, and a strong commitment to supporting students with special needs.
Working Conditions
  • The role may involve lifting and moving educational materials and equipment.
  • The teacher may need to assist students with physical needs, including mobility and personal care.
  • There may be exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
