POSITION SUMMARY
The Mechanic II is tasked with ensuring the operational efficiency of industrial machinery and equipment through regular maintenance and repair. This role is crucial for maintaining high production standards by diagnosing and resolving issues with large-scale manufacturing equipment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures during all maintenance activities.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on machinery, engines, motors, and pneumatic tools by following detailed diagrams, manuals, and manufacturer specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical problems in production equipment, making necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Verify that all production equipment meets safety and quality standards before it is returned to operational use.
- Maintain an organized maintenance shop, ensuring that tools, parts, and equipment are in good condition.
- Operate a sit-down powered industrial forklift safely and efficiently.
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on facilities, including plumbing, lighting, and HVAC systems.
- Utilize machine shop tools to fabricate replacement parts as required.
- Provide mechanical maintenance insights and recommendations as necessary.
- Familiarize oneself with production lines, storage areas, and inventory.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor, engineering teams, and operations personnel to coordinate repair activities.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with team members to foster a collaborative work environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent from a technical institution, coupled with three to five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Practical knowledge of electrical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and gearboxes is essential, along with the ability to troubleshoot and repair these systems.
CERTIFICATIONS
Forklift certification is mandatory.
SKILLS REQUIRED
Language: Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documents and business procedures. Capable of following simple instructions and writing basic correspondence. Effective verbal communication skills are necessary.
Computer: Basic computer literacy is required, including the ability to learn departmental software and scanning systems.
Mathematical: Competence in basic arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using various units of measure.
Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense and mechanical knowledge to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions for troubleshooting mechanical failures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires frequent use of hands for handling and manipulation, as well as the ability to stand, walk, stoop, and sit throughout the work shift.
