Job Summary

The Appoquinimink School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Part-Time 29-Hour Educational Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of our students by providing academic support, transportation assistance, and a safe and encouraging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist as a van aide in transporting a student to school each morning, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Provide a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the students' needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Support the classroom teacher in instruction, assessment, and organization, engaging in planning, following plans, and working with individual students/small groups.
  • Monitor independent work, collect academic/behavioral data, and assist in keeping accurate/current records of student progress.
  • Perform clerical duties, assist in gathering/developing instructional materials, and maintain an organized work environment.
  • Demonstrate characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem-solving, exhibiting flexibility, and cooperation.
  • Implement School Board and school-based policies and procedures to uphold school regulations.
Requirements
  • High School diploma and passing ParaPro scores or a minimum of 60 college credits.
  • State of Delaware Paraeducator Permit required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators, and parents.
  • Experience in working with students of varying abilities.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, 504, and IEPs.
  • Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing.
Physical Requirements

This position may require frequent bending, walking, running, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds. Additional demands may require moving wheelchairs, assisting with toileting, feeding, and other daily living activities. Assist with self-care plans such as toileting, feeding, personal hygiene, dressing, and other daily living activities; physically assist students to engage in activities such as walking or eating, able to kneel and work on the floor with students, able to walk for long periods. Assistance with physically aggressive behaviors required.

Working Conditions

The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

Pre-Employment Requirements

All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test. Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification, documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
