The Equine and Farm Animal Attendant plays a crucial role in supporting the health and well-being of patients at the Veterinary Center. This position involves providing essential animal husbandry services to a variety of species, ensuring a safe and sanitary environment for both animals and staff.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver comprehensive care including feeding, grooming, and handling of equine and farm animals such as bovine, caprine, ovine, and camelids.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the facility by following established protocols for cleaning and disinfecting all areas.
- Manage the upkeep of both indoor and outdoor grounds as necessary.
- Oversee the maintenance of supplies and equipment, ensuring proper repair schedules are adhered to.
- Participate in on-call duties, weekend shifts, and holiday rotations as required.
- Adhere to all Infectious Disease protocols to ensure the safety of all patients.
- Assist in inventory management, supply ordering, and foster effective communication with ancillary services.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management.
Applicants should have completed an accredited training program in a relevant field or possess an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some roles may necessitate additional certifications or licenses.
Essential Skills:- Experience in handling equine and farm animals.
- Proficiency in maintaining cleanliness in animal care settings.
- Basic computer skills including data entry and spreadsheet management.
- Ability to work with potentially hazardous materials and in challenging environments.
- Strong communication skills and professionalism in high-pressure situations.
- Capability to operate standard barn equipment safely.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
- Physical stamina to perform tasks that may require lifting and prolonged periods of activity.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Prior experience in an equine or mixed animal veterinary environment, particularly in a teaching hospital.
- Familiarity with OSHA and AAHA standards.
- A valid driver's license is required and must be obtained within a specified timeframe upon hiring.
