Role Summary

The Senior Analyst will deliver comprehensive insights and expert evaluations of the U.S. electricity markets, playing a crucial role in project development, origination, and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct detailed nodal modeling and analysis of designated U.S. electricity markets to inform investment choices, business planning, and new ventures.
  • Oversee, enhance, and ensure the relevance of in-house electricity market models and databases.
  • Communicate and clarify market model inputs and outputs to stakeholders involved in project development, corporate affairs, and commercial operations.
  • Monitor market trends and provide analytical assessments of significant changes.
  • Research and track key regulatory developments within specific markets, participating in conferences and ISO meetings.
  • Establish yourself as a recognized expert in electricity markets, both internally and externally.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline (focus on power systems preferred).
  • A robust set of quantitative and analytical skills, complemented by over 5 years of relevant experience in quantitative analysis, electricity market modeling, consulting, or energy trading.
  • Proficiency in advanced Excel, along with programming skills in Python, VBA, SQL, or similar languages.
  • A comprehensive understanding of U.S. power industry structures, policies, regulations, and market fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with current trends in conventional generation, renewables, gas, energy storage, transmission, and distributed generation.
  • A strong grasp of transmission systems, power flow fundamentals, and LMP formation.
  • The ability to translate model outputs into actionable business insights and articulate their implications for the organization.
  • Experience in developing and utilizing market and financial models, as well as familiarity with commercial production cost modeling software such as ProMOD, PLEXOS, Aurora, Gridview, GE MAPS, PSO, Dayzer, etc.
  • Knowledge of linear algebra, linear programming, and optimization theory.
  • Specific experience analyzing the ERCOT market is highly desirable.
