Description

As a Heavy Equipment Service Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing, servicing, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling engines and equipment related to construction, mining, and transportation. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the operational efficiency of various machinery and power systems.

Job Placement Criteria:

Your placement within the company will depend on your knowledge, skills, and experience in the following categories:

  • Apprentice I: Basic comprehension of mechanical tools and service protocols. Experience: Technical school certification or one year of relevant heavy equipment experience.
  • Apprentice II: Familiarity with component identification and understanding of Caterpillar mechanical systems. Experience: Two years of relevant heavy equipment experience.
  • Shop Technician: Proficient in the operation, troubleshooting, and repair of various Caterpillar mechanical systems. Experience: Minimum of four years of relevant heavy equipment experience.
  • Master Technician: Comprehensive understanding and advanced capability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various Caterpillar mechanical systems. Experience: Minimum of ten years of relevant heavy equipment experience.

The specific knowledge and performance expectations for all roles will be detailed in the Wyoming Machinery Company Employee Development Program.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct troubleshooting and inspections of equipment and systems using diagnostic tools.
  • Remove, repair, and/or replace components and parts on various machinery and systems, including but not limited to engines, hydraulics, brakes, and electrical systems.
  • Adhere to company standards for quality of work and safety protocols.
  • Utilize computer systems to prepare and submit accurate reports within established timelines.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, supervisors, and clients.
  • Interpret parts manuals, service guides, and system schematics.
  • Be available to work rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights).

Additional Functions:

  • Operate machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Compile data to create cost-effective job estimates and parts requisitions.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and readiness to assist colleagues.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical school certification or equivalent work experience as outlined in the job summary.
  • Knowledgeable in various mechanical areas, including gearing, bearings, seals, and hydraulics.
  • Proficient in using stationary and portable machinery and tools to meet specific job requirements.
  • Able to read and comprehend English, including parts manuals and technical schematics, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capable of safely rigging or lifting machine components.
  • Possess mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with Cat software systems and basic computer skills.
  • Able to safely operate motor vehicles and job-related equipment.

Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of walking, sitting, and standing.
  • Exposure to dirt, grease, dust, noise, and other elements typical of a workshop environment.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of necessary personal protective equipment.
  • Work in elevated positions, including climbing, bending, stooping, and squatting.
