Student Support Counselor

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Conducts comprehensive assessments of student backgrounds, engaging in personal interviews and necessary evaluations to recommend tailored programs for each individual.
· Offers ongoing educational, vocational, personal, and social counseling, providing direct assistance on both individual and group levels; suggests essential modifications to programs as needed.
· Maintains accurate and current documentation, case notes, and records utilizing various documentation systems. Prepares reports and verifies essential information as required.
· Identifies obstacles to student success and formulates personalized career development plans.
· Refers students for medical or psychological assessments and takes appropriate actions as necessary.
· Connects students with other program areas such as transfers, extensions, advanced programs, and college placements.
· Leads student evaluation committees.
· Keeps in touch with students' families, guardians, and/or probation officers; conducts home visits when necessary and leverages community resources as appropriate.
· Facilitates a range of specialized programs covering topics such as human sexuality, harassment, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, anger management, conflict resolution, diversity, leadership, and adjustment.
· Coordinates services and support for non-residential students, including daily accountability follow-ups.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Strong understanding of counseling methodologies.
· Proven ability to assess and address the emotional needs of young adults.
· Quick learner of organizational methodologies.
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
· Detail-oriented with exceptional documentation and time management abilities.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
· Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 credits in social services-related courses.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
· At least one year of experience in counseling or a related field.
· Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record is required.
