Job Title: Certified Nurses Assistant

The Arc Eastern Connecticut is a leading provider of services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are seeking a Certified Nurses Assistant to join our team.

Job Summary:

The Certified Nurses Assistant will provide nursing procedures and patient care tasks to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all state and regulatory reporting requirements and present staff in-services relating to medications and nursing issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure confidentiality as required by law, The Arc ECT, and DDS policies and procedures.
  • Provide nursing care in post-acute care facilities.
  • Check vital signs such as blood pressure and pulse and provide regular reports to the broader nursing team.
  • Observe the conditions of residents on an ongoing basis and alert supervising staff to any concerns or emergencies.
  • Help residents perform activities of daily living (ADLs), such as toileting, grooming, personal hygiene, and feeding.
  • Assist with meals and feeds participants.
  • Administer enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths, and apply restraints.
  • Instill confidence in residents by maintaining a neat appearance and performing duties in a competent and caring manner.
  • Reports observations of participants to the nurse caring for the resident to ensure professional assessment.
Requirements:
  • Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred.
  • Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Applicants must possess basic computer aptitude and be able to speak/write in English.
  • Experienced with Department of Developmental Services regulations, forms, and protocols.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suit.
  • Current State of CT CNA License.
  • Knowledge of medical terms and basic nursing care procedures.
  • Strong observational skills and a high level of attention to details.
