Position Overview:

The role of the Electrical Test Technician involves leading and executing inspections, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and commissioning of low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems. This includes equipment such as breakers, transformers, switches, switchgear, relays, and motor control centers, both in field settings and workshop environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Testing and Commissioning:
  • Conduct acceptance and maintenance testing on electrical power distribution systems and associated equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
  • Perform insulation resistance testing, power factor testing, and contact resistance testing in compliance with industry standards.
  • Evaluate test results to assess equipment condition and suggest necessary corrective measures.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems, with hands-on experience in transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protective relays.
  • Utilize electrical testing instruments such as insulation resistance testers, power factor meters, and relay test sets effectively.
  • Familiarity with NETA standards, NFPA 70E, and OSHA safety regulations is essential.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects both on-site and in-house, ensuring thorough documentation from order receipt to invoicing.
  • Conduct testing on low and medium voltage cables, transformers, switchgear, breakers, and various electrical devices.
  • Implement cost-control measures to minimize material waste.
  • Participate in emergency on-call duties and respond promptly to customer emergencies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 9 years of experience with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in electronics installation and maintenance across multiple systems.
  • Ability to interpret trade drawings including architectural, electrical, mechanical, and civil to identify potential design and installation issues.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards including NETA ATS/MTS, NEC, and NFPA 70E.
  • Preferred certifications include NETA level III or IV.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good vision and hearing capabilities to communicate effectively.
