Reporting to the Director of Regional Gift Programs, the Regional Gift Officer is an integral member of a team dedicated to enhancing the fundraising capabilities of the Oregon State University Foundation (OSUF) on behalf of Oregon State University (OSU).

The Regional Gift Officer is tasked with evaluating the potential and willingness of individuals to contribute to OSU, fostering meaningful connections with the university. The Regional Gift Officer significantly influences the university's fundraising initiatives by accurately identifying prospective donors and assessing their likelihood to give. Meeting the outlined performance metrics is crucial for the financial health and growth of the institution. A well-engaged donor base is vital for supporting scholarships, research, infrastructure projects, and various academic programs, ultimately enhancing the university's standing and impact.

This position is essential for cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors, aligning their philanthropic interests with the university's needs, and securing resources for future projects. The Regional Gift Officer serves as a vital link between the university's mission and the philanthropic community, contributing to a brighter future for OSU.

Work Environment

The role is based in the OSU Foundation's office, with a hybrid work model that combines remote and in-office workdays. Employees are typically in the office midweek and can work remotely at the beginning and end of the week.

Collaboration and Success Metrics
  • Engage and build relationships with individuals capable of financially supporting the university.
  • Qualify 250 potential donors annually, utilizing existing technologies and processes.
  • Refer 25 new potential donors to Donor Experience Officers based on a 10% qualification rate.
  • Conduct 40-50 solicitations of $1,000 or more each year.
  • Secure 15-25 gifts of $1,000 or more annually.
  • Assist in developing the volunteer pipeline in collaboration with Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement teams.
Core Duties

Manage a portfolio of 500-1,000 potential donors primarily located on the West Coast.

Qualify potential donors through in-person visits and various modern communication methods, including email, video conferencing, and phone calls.

Promote philanthropic opportunities offered by the OSU Foundation, including university and college giving priorities, cause-based initiatives, and alumni association memberships.

Identify potential leadership annual giving ($1,000 - $49,999) or major gift ($50K+) donors and collaborate with the Pipeline Development team for appropriate assignments.

Connect potential donors with engagement opportunities that enhance their involvement with the university, such as regional events and alumni activities.

Work alongside college/university external relations colleagues to deepen alumni, parent, and friend engagement across the institution.

Travel frequently to engage with potential donors across the region.

Perform necessary administrative tasks, including documenting contact reports and coordinating engagement activities.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of experience in development, communications, sales, or a related field, preferably in higher education. Equivalent education and experience will be considered. A valid driver's license is required, along with the ability to travel by various means.
