Job Summary

Asa Carlton, Inc. is seeking a highly experienced Construction Management Director to lead our commercial construction division. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing ground-up new construction and site development projects, with a focus on restaurant, fuel station/convenience store, and retail commercial construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily management, coordination, and oversight of all commercial construction projects within the division.
  • Provide departmental oversight for all phases of construction projects from beginning to end, ensuring timely completion and quality standards.
  • Supervise multiple Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Engineers to oversee ongoing commercial construction projects and renovations.
  • Ensure cost control is set up and maintained in accordance with company standards, monitoring and managing bottom line profit accountability for the commercial construction division.
  • Conduct regular jobsite visits and perform job audits to check and monitor progress and quality standards.
  • Review contract terms and conditions, assisting Executive Management in contract negotiations.
  • Ensure scheduling procedures are followed, including baseline critical path schedules, monthly updates, and two-week lookahead schedules.
  • Provide oversight of the project closeout process, ensuring deliverables and deadlines are met.
  • Recruit, train, mentor, and oversee the supervision of qualified construction personnel.
  • Establish and promote a safety culture on all jobsites, preventing injuries to employees and the public, environmental hazards, and property losses.
  • Assure jobsite compliance with Asa Carlton's Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) program, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with safety policies and procedures, as well as OSHA requirements.
  • Enforce project quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) standards, ensuring onsite QA/QC meetings and inspections are conducted and documented.
  • Follow, promote, and enforce all company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting to Executive Management, including weekly Work in Progress, Manpower Needs, and monthly financial projections.
  • Ensure each project team member's compliance with their job descriptions and responsibilities, conducting formal employee performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to develop new or renewed client relationships.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in management-level positions in Commercial Construction.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (equivalent work experience considered).
  • Proven experience in successfully managing and completing ground-up commercial construction projects ranging from $5-15MM.
  • In-depth understanding of construction procedures and project management principles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office Suite, with a focus on Excel.
  • Intermediate skill level with technology and computer systems.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Experience with Sage accounting software and Bluebeam a plus.
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management ability.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and specifications.
  • This is a corporate office position based out of our Braselton, GA office, requiring nationwide travel up to 10-15% throughout the US.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Physical Requirements

The Director of Construction is frequently required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talk to hear. The Director of Construction is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, twist, climb, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms. The Director of Construction must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
