The comprehensive salary range is $41,781 to $61,458, with an anticipated hiring range of $41,781 to $45,190 based on qualifications, complemented by an attractive benefits package.

Work Schedule: Standard hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM or 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with one evening shift weekly and rotating weekend duties.

Key Responsibilities:

The Library Associate role is integral to our community service, requiring outstanding customer service abilities and technological proficiency to enhance library offerings. This position plays a vital role in executing library programs and services, providing comprehensive support at the public service desk, and collaborating with colleagues and staff.

Key responsibilities include assisting patrons with reference inquiries, guiding customers in utilizing physical and digital resources, and offering readers' advisory services. The Library Associate may also participate in collection development by evaluating the quality of materials and processing or repairing items. Additional tasks involve maintaining shelves and organizing library materials.

The Library Associate will be responsible for opening and closing the facility on designated days and will work alongside other staff to ensure a welcoming library environment. This includes reporting any equipment issues or maintenance needs to supervisors. Furthermore, the Library Associate is expected to serve as a resource across the library system during evenings and weekends, assisting staff in the proper execution of library and city policies, including circulation, registration, computer usage, cash handling, and behavioral guidelines.

The Greensboro Public Library reserves the right to assign employees to various library locations based on service needs. Employees are expected to fulfill all responsibilities outlined in their job descriptions, along with any additional duties as assigned, in alignment with the City's core values of honesty, integrity, stewardship, and respect. Physical requirements include standing, walking, reaching, stooping, climbing, lifting, or pushing up to 40 lbs. Employees must maintain reliable communication and be available to work the required hours, including weekends.

This position is classified as NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree with 1-3 years of direct customer service experience in a public library or retail setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with cash registers, copiers, and printers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in a library setting utilizing an Integrated Library System (ILS) such as Wise, Horizon, Evergreen, or SiriDynix.
