Position Overview:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead is responsible for conducting routine to advanced laboratory tests across various sectors of the laboratory. This role includes oversight of specific technical areas, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing new method projects, and maintaining cost-effective inventory. The lead will also be responsible for documentation of technical procedures and training of new staff and students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform complex laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to policies and federal regulations, including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
  • Evaluate test results for accuracy and address complex issues as they arise.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and quality control of laboratory instruments.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for designated work areas.
  • Manage proficiency testing and assist in competency development for staff.
Training and Development:
  • Participate in the training of new employees and students.
  • Oversee direct observations for annual competency assessments.
Specimen Collection:
  • Instruct patients on testing procedures.
  • Verify patient identification and select appropriate collection methods.
  • Label and process specimens accurately.
Administrative Duties:
  • Manage inventory and supply requests.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and projects.
  • Perform clerical tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant laboratory field with clinical rotations or equivalent.
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in a high-complexity laboratory setting.
  • Certification from an HHS approved laboratory organization (ASCP or AMT) is required within a specified timeframe.
