Key Position Details:

The Allina Health Cancer Institute (AHCI) is in search of a Chief of Surgical Oncology to lead our expanding department in the Twin Cities.
  • The Surgical Oncology department encompasses Breast/Surgical oncology, Thoracic oncology, Urologic oncology, and Hepatobiliary divisions, operating under a collaborative model.
  • The team includes fellowship-trained surgical oncologists and a variety of specialists, supported by Advanced Practice Providers dedicated to patient care.
  • This leadership role entails administrative oversight of clinical staff and strategic direction for the department.
  • The position will be based at a nationally recognized hospital.

Job Description:

Principal Responsibilities:

In this role, the Chief of Surgical Oncology will oversee all departmental staff, with responsibilities including:
  • Collaborating with administrative leadership on operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Ensuring high-quality clinical care and patient outcomes.
  • Managing work assignments and on-call schedules.
  • Participating in administrative and departmental meetings as required.
  • Leading the development of policies and standards of practice.
  • Mentoring staff and supporting their professional development.
  • Facilitating the recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
Direct Patient Care:
  • Engaging with patients to enhance their health and well-being.
  • Practicing with a focus on cultural sensitivity and individual rights.
  • Participating in a multidisciplinary approach to patient management.
  • Contributing to quality assurance and peer review processes.
  • Utilizing quality improvement methodologies to enhance patient care delivery.
Job Requirements:
  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical training required.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in General Surgery.
  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Oncology fellowship program.
  • Board certification is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is essential.
  • Leadership experience is required.
  • Possession of an active medical license in the relevant state.
  • Ability to maintain necessary certifications and privileges.
  • BLS certification required within a specified timeframe.
