Overview:

The Financial Accountant is a crucial member of the finance team, directly supporting the Vice President of Finance and Operations. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of financial records and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

The Financial Accountant will be tasked with the preparation and upkeep of financial documentation that reflects the organization's assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and tax obligations. This includes performing reconciliations, making necessary adjustments in the general ledger, and assisting with compliance reporting related to external funding.

Additionally, the Financial Accountant will engage in financial analysis, contribute to budgeting and forecasting initiatives, and generate reports for management review. The overarching goal is to aid the VP of Finance and Operations in fulfilling the financial objectives of the organization while fostering a culture of accountability and transparency.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and reconcile financial records and ledgers.
  • Collaborate with various teams to provide insights and data-driven recommendations.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Review and authorize cash disbursements to ensure proper documentation and posting.
  • Conduct timely bank statement and general ledger reconciliations, identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  • Maintain the general ledger, including coding invoices and closing monthly accounts.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and verify deposits.
  • Ensure payment of invoices related to accounts payable.
  • Facilitate audit processes by liaising with auditors and managing deadlines.
  • Stay informed on federal, state, and local regulations to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Monitor adherence to policies, procedures, and GAAP standards, reporting discrepancies to the VP of Finance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting is required, along with a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience. A solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and familiarity with accounting software is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a non-profit setting is advantageous, along with familiarity in managing grant expenses and reporting. Previous use of QuickBooks and CPA certification are also preferred.


Work Environment:

This position primarily operates in an office setting, with occasional outdoor work subject to varying weather conditions. The role involves continuous use of a computer and may require occasional use of audio-visual equipment for presentations.
