Job Summary:

Care for patients in hospital, nursing home, or other medical facility settings under the direction of nursing and medical staff. Ensure timely completion of critical tasks and maintain a positive living environment for patients and residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to patient and resident needs by answering signal lights, bells, or intercom systems and ensuring that all needs are fulfilled by qualified staff.
  • Bathe, dress, and undress patients, and serve and collect food trays as needed.
  • Transport patients or assist them to walk between medical facilities, gathering necessary supplies and reporting medical information to nursing staff upon return.
  • Perform basic monitoring and testing functions, such as blood glucose measurements and documentation.
  • Assist with examinations and treatments, holding instruments and adjusting lights as needed.
  • Turn and reposition bedfast patients to prevent bedsores and maintain cleanliness.
  • Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, and answer the telephone.
  • Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration rates, as well as food and fluid intake and output.
  • Maintain rapid responsiveness to patient and resident needs and requests.
  • Communicate thoroughly and in detail regarding patient and resident subjects, both verbally and in writing.
  • Clean, sterilize, store, prepare, and issue dressing packs, treatment trays, and other supplies.
  • Dust and clean patients' rooms to maintain a positive living environment.
  • Report all material medical information and patient/resident condition changes to the nurse on duty.
  • Provide snacks and hydration within medical orders.
  • Perform all work duties efficiently and on a timely basis, serving multiple patient and resident needs simultaneously.
  • Evacuate patients and residents during emergencies under the direction of the nurse on duty.
  • Demonstrate ability to change priorities and accomplish tasks despite frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrate clear communication skills, both orally and in writing, while performing essential functions.
Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Arizona State Certification/Licensure as a Nursing Assistant.
  • Prior medical environment work experience is preferred.
  • Current and continuing BLS training and certification.
  • Employment at Gila River Health Care requires an AZ Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures, specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
