Materials Management Specialist

Job Summary:

The Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Materials Management Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our logistics team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe movement of materials, equipment, and supplies throughout the region.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate state agency trucks and cargo vans to deliver and pick up large items, including furniture, filing cabinets, and equipment.
  • Provide mail pickup and small package delivery services to HHS offices in the region.
  • Perform warehouse duties, including receiving, inspecting, and storing packages and materials.
  • Assemble and install furniture and equipment ordered by and delivered to HHS customers.
  • Assist with office moves, including carrying, loading, transporting, and unloading office contents between HHS office locations.
  • Oversee and direct activities of contractors hired for moves and modular furniture installation.
  • Function as a member of the Regional Disaster Deployment Team, delivering, setting up, and monitoring emergency equipment to disaster areas.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operations and basic maintenance, including safe cargo loading and unloading methods.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal traffic rules and regulations for cargo and mail delivery.
  • Knowledge of warehousing procedures, including safe use of motorized equipment for moving and securing materials.
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and dollies.
  • Ability to lift, pull, push, and/or carry 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform basic building maintenance or repair, such as painting, caulking, and changing light bulbs.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions for completing tasks and assembling basic items.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, peers, and managers.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent travel to various locations throughout the region. The successful candidate must be able to lift, push, and pull heavy objects, and work in a variety of weather conditions.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Previous experience in a related field, such as logistics, transportation, or warehousing, is preferred.
