Job Title: Youth Sports Staff

At the Family YMCA of Marion & Polk Counties, we are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Youth Sports Staff member. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable experience for children and families participating in our youth sports programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide refereeing and supervision for youth sports games, ensuring a positive experience for all participants.
  • Develop connections among YMCA members and staff, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
  • Maintain and organize equipment, ensuring a clean and safe game site.
  • Provide a point of contact for parents, program participants, and members, addressing their needs and concerns.
  • Perform retention activities to ensure a high level of satisfaction among participants and families.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Obtain First Aid & CPR Certification within 30 days of employment or first available training.
  • Mandatory Abuse Reporting Training within 30 days of employment or first available training.
  • Concussion Certificates within 30 days of employment or first available training.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Must be physically capable of observing and listening for stressful situations at all times.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to quickly reach a person and/or situation to prevent harm.
Essential Functions:
  • Needs to have knowledge of current fitness issues/trends.
  • Possess the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Have an understanding of the rules of sport and experience playing specific sport or on an organized team.
  • Possess the ability to work with varying ages and to manage large groups.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to listen and discern participants, members, and guests' wants, needs, and interests.
  • Must be able to engage strangers in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
  • Ability to make support people from all walks of life.
Participant/Membership Engagement:
  • Actively performs with a “kid first” philosophy.
  • Introduces him/herself to the coaches and players prior to each game.
  • Gives the site intro to spectators and makes appropriate announcements prior to each game.
  • Learns coach and player's names and uses them frequently.
  • Introduces players to other players and staff.
  • Compliments and encourages players & fans regularly and provides positive feedback.

All candidates must have reliable transportation. Job offers are contingent upon completion of a rigorous criminal history background check. Salary: $15.10 per hour.
