The Smithsonian Institution is a world-renowned museum, education, and research complex, comprising 21 museums and the National Zoo. Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled Collections Management Specialist to lead our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team of collections management staff to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Developing and implementing policies and plans for collections management protocols.
  • Implementing communication plans for a museum or public garden.
  • Managing programs such as exhibit development, volunteer, intern, and fellowship programs.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have:

  1. GS-12 Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service, including leading a team of collections management staff, developing policies and plans for collections management protocols, and implementing a communication plan for a museum or public garden.
  2. GS-13 Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Service, including leading a successful team by defining/achieving organizational goals, problem solving, and building trust through collaboration, developing policies and plans for collections management protocols, managing programs such as exhibit development, volunteer, intern, and fellowship programs, and developing and implementing communications plans for a museum or public garden.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills that translate directly to paid employment.

Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
