Job Summary

The Chief Nurse of Ambulatory Care position is located in Associate Director, Patient Care service at the Bedford campus. This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide executive leadership and direct supervision to Nurse Managers/Supervisors over Primary Care, Specialty and Acute Care, and Home Based Primary Care and other outpatient specialty care areas.
  • Assess, plan, and evaluate the processes and daily operations of the outpatient clinics.
  • Oversight of professional practice competency and standards of professionalism for all non-APRN nursing staff within the Nursing Ambulatory Care Service and medical center.
  • Responsible for assessing and recommending the allocation of human and material resources, in determining staffing level models utilizing staffing methodology, managing overtime, and plays a significant role in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff.
  • Ensures competency assessment is completed on each nursing employee annually.
  • Reviews EPRP, PACT Compass, PCMM, Missed Opportunity Rates, Telehealth Reports, and Business Operations data for trends and early intervention; formulates follow-up plans with Nurse Executive Team, Nurse Managers, the service, and the medical center.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 or more years of prior outpatient leadership experience.
Working Conditions

This position requires walking, standing or sitting for periods of up to 8 hours.
